Return to Form by the Tigers 18s!

June 11, 2010 by admin

Celebrations of a good win.

The postponed Tigers Under 18 Grade match against Belconnen Magpies was played at Dairy Farmers Park under lights on Thursday in near perfect conditions albeit in freezing conditions.

Both teams displayed tremendous endeavour entertaining a strong crowd in attendance.

It was a game to determine who would be placed in second position on the ladder with the Tigers reversing an earlier season loss with a morale boosting 12.8 (80) to 6.6 (42) victory.

The win will certainly restore some lost pride after the thumping this team received at the hands of Ainslie the previous Saturday. The Tigers are now placed as equal competition leaders with Ainslie but second on percentage.

A four goal opening term paved the way for an impressive victory to the Tigers. The inclusion of a number of players who were unavailable for varying reasons in recent weeks certainly added confidence and enthusiasm to the team.

One youngster who rarely receives a mention is Tim Coggan but on Thursday night he relished the conditions and played an outstanding game. His quick forward movement of the ball being a feature. Newcomer Shannon Winmar was a handful for the opposition with a skillful display by hand and foot. The late inclusion of Sam Jensen provided the team with another strong target up-forward and for the second consecutive week he posted five goals. One from in front of the Growlers deck of which the large contingent of senior players were enjoying the match.

Taylor Lee is growing in confidence in his new role at centre half forward. He provides a strong target with a safe pair of hands. Down back Kyle King was a welcome addition to the fullback line. There is no turning back for this big bloke with his long kicking providing plenty of attacking moves. His sergeant in arms Sean Van Holland provides plenty of enthusiasm for a backline that has plenty of run and enthusiasm from the likes Elie Maatouk, Jack Bowyer and Mitchell Price. Jake Robinson continues to impress in the ruck department.

Overall it was an entertaining game between two very competitive teams.

Players listen intently to half time instructions.

Coach Paul Campbell was extremely pleased with the start.
