Sam Jensen a Super Talent!

June 25, 2010 by admin

15 year Old to Make 1st Grade debut

After kicking 18 goals in three matches in the Tigers Under 18 Grade team and also being named in the U16s NSW/ACT Rams last Monday night the highly promising Sam Jensen is set to take the field for his first 1st Grade match for the Tigers this weekend capping a stellar 3 weeks in his young football career.

“And what a game to make his debut”

The Olympic Stadium at Homebush in Sydney is the venue for the Tigers clash against competition leaders the Sydney Swans Reserves as the curtain raiser match to the Swans v Collingwood encounter.

At just 15, Sam becomes one of the youngest players to ever don a Tigers 1st Grade jumper following in the footsteps of Tiger legends in Tony Wynd (who eventually played 347 1st Grade games) and Robert Anderson (who eventually played 229 1st Grade games along with a stint at Footscray).

Around the same time last year 15 year old Kaine Steven also played his first 1st Grade match posting six goals on debut. The late Keith Schow also played his first 1st Grade match for the Tigers in the 50’s and went onto play for Collingwood before rejoining the Tigers as Coach eventually playing 119 1st Grade matches.

So the debate will be – who is the youngest and will come down to months. The Club will do some research and report back about our youngest ever player.
In the meantime Sam Jensen will enjoy the thrill of running out onto the Olympic Stadium Saturday afternoon.

The game commences at 3.50pm and will be fully broadcast on QBN FM 96.7.

The Swans Reserves will be at full strength for this encounter. The Tigers will be missing Matt Liddle, Mitch Heaslip and Kris Thompson. Jason Satchell returns after 8 weeks on the injured list.

After an encouraging victory last week against Tuggeranong the Tigers are hopeful of a strong showing on Saturday.

In other matches the Reserve Grade play Gungahlin on Sunday at Amaroo, the game commencing 200pm; the Under 18 grade play third placed Marist at Marist on Sunday at 11.30am while the Ladies play Eastlake on Friday Night at Kingston Oval.

Game Awards will be made on Sunday Night at the Tigers Licensed Club form 6.30pm.
