Tigers News Update!

Australian Country Football Carnival

Congratulations to AFL Canberra in particular Managing Director Geoff Gosling and staff members Russell Taylor, Tamarah Knox and Amy Dwyer for their organisation of the Australian Country Football Championships. The Carnival was a credit to all concerned.

To our many volunteers who assisted in the two day event at Dairy Farmers Park including the washing of every team’s jumpers, shorts, socks, “jocks” and whatever else could be thrown into the laundry bags – a huge thank you for your efforts.

Tigers Coach Mark Armstrong commented last Saturday morning that he had gone from being the All Australian Coach (2008) to the All Australian sock washer after managing to clean the Victorian Country team jumpers etc overnight. Not an easy job when they wear white jumpers.

The following assisted during the event: Rowan Johnstone, Elise Burnell, Ian Purnell, Lynlee Satchell, Judy Mustard, Mark Armstrong, Adrian Pavese, Wally and Leslie Thompson, Bob / Lyn Gibbs, and Family, Di McGinley, Nick Vosnakes, Ray Daniel, Shannon Winmar, Toby Yates, Lisa Bush, Steve Camp, Matty Mapleson, Graham Harmer, Darryl and Robyn Jenkins, Jill and Nicole Bright, Michael Rutherford, Lyn MacKenzie and Scott Taylor, Doug Daniel, Queanbeyan Rotary, Sids for Kids volunteers, players from the Marist Under 18 Grade team, Roger Beam, Mr Roulstone, Keith and Siau Jones and the Harman Football Club.

All Australian Vice Captain

Congratulations to our very own James Kavanagh on being selected as Vice Captain of the All Australian team and that of other members from the ACT who gained selection including Chad Gibson, Marcus Crook, Matt Hearn, Ben Hughes and Griffin Underwood. “Kav” had a fantastic Carnival as Captain of the AFL Canberra team.
Our other representatives acquitted themselves well in both the NSW and ACT teams. Unfortunately Billy Neely has an injury from the Carnival and “may” miss a few games but knowing this bloke he “may “ not such is his commitment to his fitness and the team.

Briedis to Play 100th Club Game

This weeks match against Tuggeranong Hawks represents the 100th Club Game for Paul Briedis. This is a wonderful achievement for PB who has travelled for the past four years from Sydney to play for his beloved Tigers. He said he would never play for another club. He certainly kept his word during this time with a commitment that surpasses many others who are sometimes flat out travelling around the corner to attend training !!!! Well done mate. He will be inducted into the Tigers 100 Club on 28 August.

Hawthorn v Swans

The Tigers play the Sydney Swans Reserves at the SCG next Saturday as the curtain raiser to the Swans / Hawthorn match. The Tigers game commences at 9.50am with the main match at 1.00pm.
On offer are tickets to the game for $20 each. Please contact Chook at the Tigers Office on 62993467 or email qtigers@tigersclub.com.au. There are only limited tickets available.

NEXT HOME MATCH AT DAIRY FARMERS PARK

Our next home match at Dairy Farmers Park is on Sunday 22 August against Belconnen.

The Club has a large range of merchandise which will be significantly reduced and available from our merchandise tent at the ground. Stock up for 2011 or buy for Christmas, Fathers / Mothers Day, Birthdays – whatever the occasion.

Tigers Fly to Swans Match through Maria Slater Travel.

A number of players and officials will take the opportunity to fly to Sydney next week for the clash against the Sydney Swans. Usually the Club travels by bus the day before when playing the early game at the SCG but on this occasion have decided to fly down on the morning of the match.
Although the majority of the group will travel by plane quite a number will be travelling the day before to “acclimatise” with the Sydney weather. Travel arrangements are being made through sponsor Maria Slater Travel in Mawson who are strong supporters of the Tigers Club. Thanks Maria and Brian for your support. (Just happens that “slats” (Paul) is their son)

Congratulations

Warm congratulations to former Tigers player Sam Quade and wife Danielle on the birth of their second child – a son – named Dane. This is a wonderful occasion for the Quade Family who have obviously been close associates of the Tigers Club since 1984. Sam played a number of games for the Tigers during his period at the club but has lived away from Canberra / Queanbeyan for many years including time in London, Hobart and now a resident of Melbourne. When visiting his parents – Brian and Lyn – in Canberra he often visits the Tigers Club. Well done and all the best with a new little Tiger.
