AFL Canberra Senior Draw Updated

May 29, 2017 by

From the weekend of 3-4 June 2017, match starting times and/or length of quarters have been changed for the remainder of the 2017 home and away season for AFL Canberra senior games. The changes have varying impacts on Women’s, Rising Stars, Second Grade and First Grade games.

The changes have been made by AFL Canberra in consultation with Senior clubs and are a part of equalisation measures which aim to make for more competitive games and reduce “blow-out” margins, particularly in men’s Second and First Grade.

The changes take place on the weekend of 3-4 June as this represents a time in the season when each of the First and Second Grade teams have played each other once.

First Grade

  • The length of quarters in First Grade games has been reduced from 20 mins plus time-on to now being straight 25 mins with no time-on (except for blood rule and stretcher).
  • The match starting time remains as 2.00pm for all games.

Second Grade

  • The length of quarters in Second Grade has been reduced from straight 25 mins to now being straight 20 mins with no time-on (except for blood rule and stretcher).
  • The match starting time has been changed from 11.45am to 12.00pm.

Rising Stars

  • The length of quarters in Rising Stars games remain unchanged ie straight 20 mins with no time-on (except for blood rule and stretcher).
  • The match starting time has been changed from 9.45am to 10.00am.

Women’s

  • The length of quarters in Women’s games remain unchanged ie straight 20 mins with no time-on (except for blood rule and stretcher).
  • However, the start time of most games has changed to 10.00am, particularly when Women’s games are played in the traditional Rising Stars timeslot as curtain raisers to Seconds.

Finals

  • Quarter lengths will return to normal in finals ie Seconds return to straight 25 min, while Firsts return to 20 min plus time on, and match starting times will also be adjusted.
