Tigers spread far and wide – Round 8 Review

June 25, 2018 by

Another difficult weekend for the Tigers with games spread far and wide from Googong to Marist across town to Ainslie.

There were some positive results from 4 of the 5 grades with the 6th team being the volunteers excelling with their commitment around the grounds.

The surprise packet this week being the comprehensive win by the Tigers Reserves.  Down at half time they produced a wonderful third quarter to post 6 unanswered goals and continued in the final term to defeat Ainslie for the first time since 2015.

Another surprise would be the Tigerettes Reserve Grade team who defeated third placed ADFA with an under strength team due to players being promoted to the Tigerettes 1st Grade team.

Overall a great weekend for the Tigers Club with all teams currently occupying a top 4 position in their respective competitions.

Tigerettes Reserve Grade.

Taking the field at 10am at Googong on a cold winters morning is not the greatest experience with the temperature hovering around the -2 mark. The Tigerettes named a depleted team however they showed fantastic spirit to win comfortably over an ADFA combination.  The win moved the Tigerettes into the top four with a clash against competition leaders Riverina Lions this Saturday in Wagga.

Tigers Under 18 Grade Rising Stars

The Tigers Under 18 Grade Rising Stars gave an awesome performance against Marist at Lindwell Oval on a very cold Saturday morning.   Fielding one of their best teams for the season, they completely dominated the Marist combination. There were some stand out performances by many players, but it was an overall team effort that resulted in the 60 point win.

Tigers Reserve Grade Men’s

The Tigers Reserve Grade produced probably the upset of the day.

The might of the Ainslie Football Club has seen their Reserve Grade go through undefeated in 2016 and 2017, defeating the Tigers in last year’s Grand Final.  But after being down by two goals at the main break, the black and goal stormed into the lead with a 6 goal third quarter and they were certainly not going to let the home team back into the match in the last quarter shutting out the opposition with a solid display.  Dean Lord once again produced the goods with a 5 goal haul taking his tally to 33 this season.

Ainslie        2.3   5.4   5.4   6.6-42
Queanbeyan        1.1   3.4   9.5   11.5-71

Tigerettes 1st Grade

The Tigerettes were missing a large contingent of senior grade players due to representative duties interstate but were able to contain the Ainslie Tricolours in the early game at Ainslie Oval.  Commencing the match in freezing the conditions, the inexperienced midfield combination played off the experience and dominance of Megan Godfrey throughout the encounter.

Ainslie        1.0   1.0   1.0   3.0-18
Queanbeyan        1.3   3.5   5.6   5.7-37

Queanbeyan

Goal Kickers: T. Campbell 2, L. Watson, M. Godfrey, A. Tupper
Best Players: M. Godfrey, K. Dobing, T. Evans, M. McGrath, T. Campbell, S. Close

Tigers 1st Grade Men’s

This game was the disappointment of the day.    The Tigers started well with little separating the two sides at the main break. A dominate and inaccurate third quarter by Ainslie provided enough incentive for the home team to close down proceedings in the final quarter. Although having the majority of play in the final term, the Tigers lacked a goal kicking forward to test the scoreboard.

Ainslie        1.3   4.7   8.13   9.13-67
Queanbeyan        2.1   4.1   5.1   6.5-41
