The Bungendore Coaches U14’s – Div 2
Round 10 – 24/07/2010

Bungendore Coaches Under 14s boys traveled away for Round 10 to play the Goulburn Swans on their home turf.

The two week break did not help our boys with a very slow start. The boys were very stand offish and still in holiday mode, whilst Goulburn went out there ready to play the game. It was however evident that the game was going to be played a fast pace and that fitness was important. Quarter time saw us level with the Swans – two goals a piece. The 2nd quarter was very similar with Goulburn getting more plays than the Tigers and going into half time with the lead against us 4 goals to 3.

The coaches divided the ranks at the half time break and concentrated on forwards and backs and demanding that the boys pick up a level and start talking out on the field. The boys were told to stand their ground and start fighting for the ball.

In return the Bungendore Coaches team took the field for the 3rd quarter with a new attitude. This saw the offence seeing a lot more of the ball and the defense standing up and attacking the ball. Brad Murphy moved from ruck to full forward and Josh Daniher took the reins in the centre. Murphy’s aggression to attack the ball saw the Swan’s full back tamed this quarter and assisted in getting the ball from Michael Pankasz and Arthur McPhee for some great goal opportunities.

Tom Daniher is finding his stride well in defense and used his height to stop the ball to turn it back to us. Three quarter time saw us only up by one goal with the Swans scoreless for the quarter, but found our boys with a regained confidence.

The final quarter saw some solid plays through the centre of the oval by Jay Ludwig, Jeremy Edwards, Alex Page and Brad Pankasz, whilst the forwards combination of Kris Cole and Shaun Franks saw some good goal scoring opportunities, with Shaun converting 3 for the day. Some great improvement from Lachlan Jordan saw him getting more of the ball and showing confidence in his ability. Final score the tigers up 9.13.67 to 6.3.39

It makes the coaching staff very proud when they have the umpire approach them at the end of the game to thank them and credit them on the teams fair play, quality and integrity. This should also be praised by the parent’s great support and positive communication from the side line.

Thanks to the parents that assist week in and week out – could not do it with out you.

Round 9 – 3/07/2010

Round 9 saw the Bungendore Coaches Under 14s boys travel away to Yass to take on the Yass Roos. This game saw us almost back to a full complement of players which gave us the advantage of a couple of spares on the bench.

The first quarter was very slow and disjointed to start. The boys did not appear to be talking it out and with the exception of a few nice plays; the tigers went into quarter time only posting 3 goals for the period. The second quarter saw the Tigers a little stronger, with some communication bringing some good plays together. Shaun Franks found his boot in great form posting 4 goals for the quarter (a total of 6 for the game), however this was supported with some good plays up the field by Alex Page and Brad Murphy. Half time saw us push away to 9.4.58 to 1.1.7.

Unfortunately, this also saw the end of one of the Yass boy’s season, being taken from the field by ambulance with injury.

Half time saw coaches asking the boys to step up and find the form that will take them to the finals. In return the Bungendore coach’s boys retook the field with a new lease of life. Some great ball work up the park by Arthur McPhee, Brad Pankasz and captain Jeremy Edwards gave the forwards some great opportunities with several of the boys posting in the quarter. Strong defense from Josh Daniher, Daniel Ziesig and Andrew Howship kept the Yass team wanting with three quarter time giving us a solid lead of 14 goals.

Final quarter saw the tigers roar and finish the game strong, answering all of coaches Kenny and Stuart’s questions. Kris Cole played a solid game through out posting a total of 5 goals for the game, whilst our newest recruit Zach Douch is showing his strength and drive in centre half forward. Final hooter saw the score 23.13.151 to 2.4.16

The team have earnt a short break over the holidays, however should continue personal training and fitness in preparation for the Goulburn game in a few weeks time.
A huge thank you to the parents that is always willing to travel to support the boys. Special thanks to Robert our ‘first aider’ who also takes time out every week to help the team and Ella Stevens who is turning the goal umpiring into an art with her flag work. Well done and thanks.

Round 8 – 26/06/2010

Round 8 saw the Bungendore Coaches Under 14s boys back in the winning circle with a strong win over Saint Eddies at Hughes. The boys went into the game short a few players due to injury and absence.

The first quarter saw the tigers come out strong with a debut goal for Zach Douch, a goal to Kodi Stevens and the first of a double for both Brad Stevens and Brad Pankasz. The second quarter saw the boys with even more determination placing a further six majors in the quarter. Some great ruck work from Captain Brad Murphy saw the boys with the majority of the ball. Going into half time the tigers led 10.14.74 to 1.0.6

In the shed the coaches showed great pride in the effort given by the boys but warned them not to take it for granted and continue strong for the remainder of the game.
The boys went out in the third a little quieter with Daniel Ziesig being moved from defense to attack and stepping up just as the coach had asked. Some great defense from Andrew Howship and Arthur McPhee kept the opposition scoreless for the quarter. The only two goals for the quarter were placed by Kris Cole (with his 2nd for the day) and Mitch O’Toole making it a hat trick for the game.

The last quarter saw the Bungendore Coaches boys find the next level and bring it home bigger than ever posting 6 goals for the quarter with good support play from Lachie Jordan in the attack line.

Final score 18.24.132 to 2.0.12

The boys are now on the back end of the competition and need to continue good wins on the road to secure a place in the finals. If they continue play like this week – coaches Kenny Sissons and Stuart Green are confident that this will happen.
Thanks to all the volunteer parent support on the weekend especially Brian Daniher who took the Manager role this week and did a great job.

A special pat on the back goes to the Under 14 boys who continue to play with great integrity.

Round 7 – 19/06/2010

Round 7 saw the fight for number 1 on the ladder with the clash between the Bungendore Coaches U14’s Div 2 boys and the Belconnen Magpies. With both teams going into the game undefeated it was sure to be a clash of wills.

The first quarter saw the boys go in fighting hard with some solid play by the whole team with goals to Kodi Stevens, Wil Graham and Brad Pankasz. Good ball skills from Arthur McPhee saw us into quarter time in the lead by 1 goal.

This made the boys take their eye off the prize and the second quarter saw Belconnen come out on fire posting 5 goals to our sole goal. Half time saw coach Kenny Sissons asking the boys for the 120% they promised to give but third quarter saw Belconnen with the taste for the win and pushing the lead out by a further 4 goals to 1.

The three quarter break saw the coaches asking about Tiger Pride and digging deep. In return, the Bungendore Coaches team took the oval with their heads held high. Strong plays by Shaun Franks and Jay Ludwig and defence in the half back position from Andrew Howship. Solid form from Captain Brad Murphy with great talking on the field showed that the tigers’ boys are strong contenders for the season. Final score a loss 15.7.97 to 7.2.44

Whist the score is not a true reflection on the quality and pace of the game, the tigers played a great hard game with no spares on the sideline due to current injury tolls.

Coaches Kenny Sissons’ and Stuart Green are very proud of how the boys played with praise from the umpire in the quality and integrity in which they played. Thanks to the volunteer parents for assistance on the day and the supporters who travelled to Holt to cheer the kids on. This team would have the largest support following within this competition. Well done.

See you on the weekend in the clash against Saint Edmunds with hopefully our skipper Jeremy Edwards and Michael Pankasz both back on the park.

Round 6 – 5/06/2010

Round 6 saw the Bungendore Coaches U14’s Div 2 boys at Town Park on Saturday for the final time before hitting the road for the rest of the season. There opponents were the very worthy Marist side that have been fighting the Tigers for second place this season.

The game started slow and hard for both teams and with the error rate notable and there were very few kicks at the posts from either squad. A single goal to Shaun Franks took the team into quarter time only up by 2 behinds.

The second quarter saw the play favouring the Tigers half of the oval and some solid runs around the centre from Captain Jeremy Edwards and Brad Pankasz. However, the inability to find the target saw the boys going into half time 2.6.18 to 3.0.18, with the only goal of the quarter going to Josh Daniher.

Coaches Kenny Sissons and Stuart Green went into the sheds at half time and asked the boys to dig deep and find the commitment to fight for the win. They acknowledged the depth of the game and that unless the boys found some stronger drive, that this may well be their first loss of the season.

The Bungendore Coaches boys came back to the field and answered the coach’s questions by stepping up to the mark in the 3rd and 4th quarters. The boys fought hard for the ball and started to find their targets to show Marist that they were a force to be reckoned with and that 2nd place on the ladder belonged to the Tigers. A strong third quarter by Josh Daniher (2 goals), and solid commitment from Arthur McPhee and Alex Page around the park saw three quarter time up by 1 goal and 10 behinds.

The fourth quarter following on from the third showed the boys can pull it together with Kris Cole good in defence and generally the whole team finding the level and depth of team support required to take them to finals football.

Final score – Tigers 7.16.58 to Marist 6.0.36.

The score reflecting that the boys need to place accuracy on their priority list for the next game against the season leaders Belconnen.

Thanks as always to parent volunteers for the day and the coaches Kenny and Stuart for all their dedicated time to the boys. They are very proud of how the boys listen and find what is required to place the points on the board.

Enjoy a well earned break this weekend, and be fighting fit for our first away game against the competition leaders.

Round 5 – 29/05/2010

Round 5 saw the sky open up and make for a very interesting game between the Bungendore Coaches U14’s Div 2 boys and Ainslie at Town Park on Saturday. The damp ground was going to prove to be difficult and taking a mark almost appeared impossible.

Both sides started off slowly, trying to find their feet and it became evident that goals were going to be difficult to find due to the wet slippery conditions. Queanbeyan had a lot of possession in their attacking half but found it hard to find the posts, going into quarter time 2.6.18 to 1.1.7, with the Daniher brothers being the only two to find the target.

Second quarter followed along the similar pattern to the first with some strong plays around the centre from captain Jeremy Edwards and Alex Page. Josh Daniher continued to be strong in the attack line and worked very well along side his brother, however struggling to push it between the large uprights due to the showery weather. Half time score 4.10.34 to 2.1.13.

At half time coach Kenny Sissons was happy at how the boys were consistent throughout the first 40, but wanted them to control the ball more and assist each other to progress down the field. The ability to take the mark in such conditions was also noted.

The third quarter saw the Bungendore Coaches team take the field and do what the coach had discussed in the sheds, with some very solid runs from Arthur McPhee and consistent performance from Brad Pankasz. Great defence from Andrew Howship ensured that the opposition was left scoreless in the third quarter, whilst Mitch O’Toole placed his first goal for the match. Three quarter score saw the Tigers push out to 7.13.55 to 2.1.13.

Consistency was what the team was all about this week and heading into the fourth quarter was no different. Kris Cole was let loose in the forward line and posted two goals for the quarter; whilst some excellent field coverage and support from vice-captain and ruck Brad Murphy saw the team come home with a great win in not so great conditions. Final Score was another win for the Tigers 10.16.76 – 3.1.19.

The next two games will see the Tigers matched against the top teams in the competition to date. This will determine their strength and will to fight for the ball and post the goals required for a win – all the things currently being worked on at training.

A huge thank you to the support provided by the parents on Saturday. I was very proud to be a Tiger and see how many families fought the elements to support the kids. Also for the support the families gave on Sunday at the main tigers match. Thank you.

See you at the park on Saturday for our last home game for a while.…..

Round 4 – 22/05/2010

Round 4 saw the Bungendore Coaches U14’s Div 2 boys take on the Tuggeranong Hawks at Town Park. The game started slow on the board for both teams but fast on the field with the opposition scoreless at quarter time. The second quarter was similarly hard fought with 2 goals the difference at half time.

The third quarter saw another great game coming through for Brad Pankasz around the centre with support also from Alex Page and Jeremy Edwards. Good defence by Nathan Bull ensured that the ball stayed moving. Some quick goals from Kris Cole, Shaun Franks and Brad Pankasz saw the Tigers head into three quarter time with a 30 point lead.

The fourth quarter as in the past weeks saw the Bungendore coaches sponsored team push ahead with Lachlan Jordan posting his first two goals, and Kodi Stevens and Jeremy Edwards placing between the posts also to finish the game 11.12.78 to 4.2.26.

Our continued thanks to Robert, our first aid support, the coaching staff and the parents that help out every week to ensure a great sports event occurs for our kids.

Special thanks is needed this week for Brian Daniher for taking control of the umpires whistle, when we were left short at the eleventh hour. A huge thank you from both the kids on the field and the parents watching.

See you at the park on Saturday…..

Round 3 – 16/05/2010

A hard fought game in round 3 for the Bungendore Coaches U14’s Div 2 boys against the Goulburn Swans at Town Park. The game started slow for both teams with tight 1st and 2nd quarters. A season ending injury to Isaac Parker in the 2nd quarter brought the boys together in the sheds at half time only up by 9 behinds.

The boys came out for the third quarter determined to bring the match home for the injured with some very strong plays around the centre square by Brad Pankasz, Alex Page and captain Jeremy Edwards. With a change in ruck to Will Graham, we saw more of the ball down towards our posts and Shaun Franks placing them very nicely between the large uprights with a total of 5 goals for the game. Arthur McPhee showed some great skill in clearing the ball with support in defence from Andrew Howship. Kodi and Brad Stevens both showed that size don’t matter and with a couple of our regulars out this week, Tom Daniher showed his versatility in moving to Centre Half forward.

The boys pushed ahead in the third quarter with 7 goals to 3, and finished the day off pushing out to 11.13.79 to 4.3.27.

Whilst the score line did not reflect the closeness of the game, the tigers need to push harder at training to maintain these wins on the board.

Thanks to Stuart Green for filling the coaches shoes this week and to all the parent helpers on the day. Special thanks to Ella Stevens for her quick thinking in replacing the goal umpire when Isaac had to be taken to hospital. We hope to see Isaac on the sideline assisting in a few weeks time.

Awards this week went to Arthur McPhee (courtesy of Donut King), Alex Page (courtesy of Sportsmans Warehouse), and the Tigers canteen award went to Shaun Franks and for the third week in a row, Brad Pankasz took out the Karabar Network Video award. Many thanks to all of our sponsors, without them we could not reward our kids for great effort.

Round 2 – 8/05/2010

A secure second win in Round 2 for the Bungendore Coaches U14’s Div 2 boys against the Yass Roos at Town Park indicate they may be a force this year. The boys started out strong with good defence from Nathan Bull and Daniel Ziesig and some solid goals from our top goal scorer for the day – William Graham which brought them into quarter time with a strong lead. The boys continued in the second quarter a little softer but with good solid plays from Mitch O’Toole and Alex Page and a consistent strong performance from Brad Pankasz around the centre continued with the lead into the third and final quarter.

Final score 19.14.128 to 1.5.11.

Newcomer Lachlan Jordan who is showing great improvement played well and received the Karabar Network Video award, with Nathan Bull’s defence getting him the Tigers Canteen Award, William Graham’s great goal scoring earning him the Sportsman’s Warehouse award, whilst Brad Pankasz received his second award of the season courtesy of Donut King.

Round 1 – 1/05/2010

A great win in Round 1 for the Bungendore Coaches U14’s Div 2 against Saint Edmunds at Town Park. The boys were a little nervous for their first game and this created a few mistakes and a tight first quarter.

Going into the 2nd quarter the boys started to find some confidence and talked on the field. Joshua Daniher and Mitch O’Toole started to find the posts with great support from Jeremy Edwards and Alex Page. At half time the Tigers lead by 6 goals.

The 3rd and 4th quarter followed from the 2nd with consistent play by Kodi Stevens and Jay Ludwig and some great potential shown by Brad Pankasz around the centre ball.

With St Edmunds tiring toward the end, the final score was 17.16 118 to 2.5.17.

Karabar Network Video Award: B Pankasz
Sportsman’s Warehouse Award: J Daniher
