Under 8s Reports





The Frank Palombi U8’s
Round 10 – 24/07/2010

On Saturday the Under 8s traveled to Mawson to take on Eastlake. The young Tigers played with great team cohesion and put their developing skills to terrific effect. The coach’s were especially impressed with how well the young Tigers were able to move the ball from end to end with great pace and accuracy.
It was great to see the boys running into space for each other and making full use of the available ground. Their calling for the ball and willingness to bring each other into the play was another stand-out feature of the game.
Josh Van Sebille and Ryan Sanderson both played outstanding games and received great support from Riley Thompson and Leo Tuckfield. Luke Nazor and Sam Ellis were both strong in attack while the defensive efforts of Luke Michalak and Sam Frost were also quite sensational. All the boys showed again how much their skills continue to improve, with several boys kicking multiple goals throughout the match.
Well done again to all the boys!
Also a special thank you to all of our parents who continue to help each week either coaching, umpiring, administrating and washing jumpers. Your support is very much appreciated by the Junior Tigers Club.
Next week we travel to Stirling to take on the Wildcats. Training continues on Wednesday evenings from 4.30pm at Dairy Farmer’s Park.

Round 9 – 3/07/2010

On Saturday the Under 8s returned to their home ground at Jerrabomberra to play against each other. It gave the coaches a good chance to spend some time developing the player’s skills in a match situation. Once again our boys showed improvement in their kicking and handball skills and it was great to see the team work throughout the game. It is fantastic to see the way the boys are bringing each other into the game with some great play running out of the backline and delivering the ball into the forward line. The boys are teaming together really now after playing half a season together.

Jack Armstrong played a very strong game and received great support from Gerard Dwyer. Leo Tuckfield had a sensational game and played his best game for the season. Jack Brown was again especially strong with his defensive efforts. Jarrod Barker and Caleb Cawse both played games that showed their skills continue to improve, with Jarrod kicking several very good goals. Luke Michalak and Lachlan Silsby were also outstanding performers throughout the whole game.
Well done to all the boys! We now have a few weeks break during the school holidays.

Our next game is at Mawson on July 24th when we will take on Eastlake.

Round 8 – 26/06/2010

On Saturday the Under 8s traveled to Mawson to take on the Bulldogs and Wildcats. Once again our boys showed improvement in their kicking and handball skills and it was great to see the team work throughout the game. It is fantastic to see the way the boys are bringing each other into the game with some great play running out of the backline and delivering the ball into the forward line. The boys are teaming together really now after playing half a season together.
Jack Brown played a fantastic game and was especially strong with his defensive efforts. Cameron Pender and Riley McCartney also played well and Flynn Sierant was also terrific through the entire game. Jordan Gilbert played a skillful game and received strong support from Stephan Ficovic, Sam Frost and Masen Frisch-Needham.
Well done to all the boys! Next week we travel to Deakin for an AFL Gala Day. Training will continue on Wednesdays at 4.30pm.

Round 7 – 19/06/2010

On Sunday the Under 8s traveled to Stirling to take on Eastlake and the Wildcats. The improved teamwork on display from all the boys impressed the coaches and parents and it was a very even display across the team. The willingness of the boys to pass the ball to teammates in better position demonstrates a growing level of team play which is pleasing for all to see. Sam Ellis and Ryan Sanderson played terrific games and were well supported by Lachlan Silsby and Luke Nazor. Jack Armstrong and Jack Foster played very well too and were given great support by many of their teammates, particularly Jordan Gilbert and Riley Thompson.

Round 6 – 5/06/2010

On Saturday the Under 8s traveled to Gordon to take on Calwell and the Bulldogs. It was another strong performance from all our players with some great chasing, kicking and hand passing being displayed by all the boys. It was a very even performance across the entire team. Sam Ellis and Gerard Dwyer had very good games and were given tremendous support by Luke Nazor and Luke Hush. Ryan Sanderson, Lachlan Savage, Joshua Van Sebille and Mac Wallis also played very well and teamed together to score several goals through the match. The teamwork and skills of the boys continue to improve every week.
Well done to all the boys! Next week we have a bye due to the long weekend but training will continue on Wednesdays at 4.30pm.

WASHED OUT

Round 4 – 22/05/2010

On Saturday the Under 8s played at Dairy Farmers Park. It is already clear that the boys are starting to team together well and Coach Gilbert was very pleased with the effort and skills displayed by all our players. All the boys played some exciting team football with many goals resulting from the boys sharing the ball with team mates in better positions. The boys’ confidence and skills improved throughout the day. All the boys got to spend some time playing in attack, defense and in the centre.
Jack Armstrong, Gerard Dwyer and Jordan Gilbert all played very well and received great support from their teammates. Cameron Pender, Joshua Ryder, Lachlan Savage and Lachlan Silsby were other players to display great skills throughout the day. Caleb Cawse and Riley McCartney had many kicks and set up a lot of attacking moves for their team. Masen Frisch-Needham kicked three fantastic goals. It was also fantastic to see Mac Wallis at the ground to cheer on his team mates. Mac could not play due to an injury but he still turned up to support the mighty Tigers and we all appreciate his effort to be there and cheer us on.
Well done to all the boys! Next week we play the Lions and Wildcats at Mawson with kickoff at 12.30pm. Training continues at Dairy Farmers Park on Wednesdays at 4.30pm.

Round 3 – 16/05/2010

On Sunday the Under 8s took part in an AFL Gala Day held at the Kippax playing fields in Holt. The boys played two games against teams we don’t normally get to play against. All the boys played some exciting team football and impressed their coaches with their teamwork and skills. The boys’ confidence and skills improved as the games went on and they all seemed to really enjoy the day. All the boys got to play in attack, defense and in the centre throughout the day. Jarrod Barker, Joshua Ryder, Riley McCartney and Samuel Ellis all teamed well and displayed very good ball handling skills. Flynn Sierant, Samuel Frost and Caleb Kawse all played terrific games too with many good kicks, marks and handballs on display for all the cheering supporters to enjoy. Riley Thompson, Lachlan Silsby and Lachlan Savage were also very good on the day and attacked the footy with great results for their team. Jack Brown made some good clearances and kicked two goals from the forward line. All in all it was a great team effort. Well done to all the boys! Next week we play Eastlake at Dairy Farmers Park in Queanbeyan.

Round 2 – 8/05/2010

It was another great day for the boys as their confidence and skills improved as the game went on it was evident that the team has improved since last week and they are only going to get better as the season progresses. Jack Foster was outstanding, he has very good ball handling skills and his kicking game was on the mark, he kicked some great goals. Flynn Sierant was very good in defence as well as Jarrod Barker. Sam Frost took some good marks and attacked the footy. Jack Brown was very good in the middle he made some good clearances kicking long into our forward line. Jack Armstrong and Jordan Gilbert kicked a goal a piece and showed good skills. Leo Tuckfield and Joshua Ryder also played well. All in all it was a great team effort. Well done boys!

Round 1 – 1/05/2010

On Saturday the Under 8s took on the Eastlake and Wildcats teams at Stirling. There were many new players experiencing their first game of AFL but you wouldn’t have known it.
All the boys played some exciting team football and coach’s Jason Gilbert and Kane Kawse enjoyed the fair play and attack on the football through out the game.
It looks like being a good year for our boys.
