Going into the Tigerettes 3rd season (2012) since being established, the club knew it had to attract a big
name in the AFL Canberra Women’s space to keep the women’s program driving forward.
Enter ACT Women’s Representative Captain Melissa Hurley!
Having finished well down the ladder in it’s first two seasons, never in the Tigerettes wildest dreams would they have thought a player such as Hurley would join the club.
And aren’t we truly blessed she took a chance and came across the boarder!
Melissa started with ANU way back in 2007 and then moved to Ainslie in 2008. At the end of the 2011 season, the current ACT rep Captain was approached by then Tigers Football Manager and ACT Women’s Rep Coach Adrian Pavese to join the young tigerettes for the 2012 to help the team with it’s development and the rest is history.
She won the Jill Bright Medal B&F in her 1st season at the club.
On Saturday vs. Woden, Hurley will reach the magical milestone of 150 AFL Canberra Games, a feat that
should be highly recognised as Hurls has missed 3 seasons to have her beautiful daughters Indigo (2013), Arnica (2015), & Sienna (2017).
All three girls are now starting their own football careers participating in the Tigers Auskick under the watchful eye of Hurley and husband Dean.
From everyone at your Tigers Family, we congratulate Hurls on a wonderful achievement and we look forward to many more years of having Dean, Indigo, Arnica, Sienna and Melissa at Tigerland.
