New lights in sight for Allinsure Park

NSW Minister for Sport, Stuart Ayres, seen below giving off an effective handball, and Member for Monaro John Barilaro, notching up a handball receive, today announced a grant of $200,000 toward the upgrade of oval lighting at Allinsure Park.

“With the popularity of junior AFL and Auskick programs, and an increased focus on women’s football ahead of the national women’s competition starting in 2017 this is a great announcement for the local Queanbeyan footy community,” said Minister Ayres.

“In recent years the Queanbeyan Tigers have worked tirelessly to improve facilities such as change rooms, fencing and the canteen. This lighting upgrade is another great step.”

Mr Barilaro said an increase in playing numbers and teams has led to the need to extend the hours of use of the oval.

“The Tigers are experiencing a steady growth in participation rates across both junior and senior football, so this upgrade will not only help with training but also night matches,” Mr Barilaro said.

“The NSW Government’s $200,000 funding toward upgrading the lighting will ensure the local AFL community is provided with a high standard facility.”

The investment will provide the first upgrade to Allinsure Park’s lighting since the oval was developed in the early 1980s.

General Manager of Football Operations Michael Goiser acknowledged the hard work put in by past committee members and former General Manager Ron Fowlie in trying for some time to secure funding for the much needed upgrade.

“A lot of time and effort has gone in to trying to get the necessary funds for this project and this commitment of funds is a fantastic contribution toward getting the project over the line,” Goiser said.

With the support of Queanbeyan-Palerang Regional Council and AFL NSW/ACT, some further funding needs to be sourced before the final project can get off the ground, but the aim is to have the new lights in place for the beginning of the 2017 season if possible.
