Queanbeyan Tigers Solomon Islands Project

Before launching into an early pre-season, a group of Tigers players and volunteers will head to the Solomon Islands to complete volunteer projects in October.

It’s an end of season trip with a difference as some of our men and women will partner with community projects in the Solomon Islands to build a fresh water supply for a refuge for orphans and women. The players will also make donations to local communities and spend some time passing on AFL skills to the Solomon Island locals.

This is a unique initiative that the Club is very proud of – our players and volunteers are giving up their own time – to help some of the poorest communities in the Pacific.

The trip will be led by our Club Chaplain, Scott Minchin who travelled to the Solomon Islands as a Defence Member in 2016. Upon his return members of the Queanbeyan Tigers Australian Football Club playing group approached him about making a trip as a playing team to support initiatives in the Solomon Islands and to take the opportunity to do something unique in AFL circles.

It is an opportunity to further develop the Tigers spirit and is a great example of the leadership and service spirit that exists at the Tigers. All the participants are funding their own way to the Solomon Islands and any financial support would be gratefully acknowledged and appreciated.

If you would like to help out please contact the club email: general.manager@tigersclub.com.au or donate via direct deposit to: BSB 633000 Account No: 146698311 (use your surname and “Solomons” in the description).

And keep an eye out for a Go Fund Me web page.
