Women’s Luncheon – a hard act to follow

The first of what will hopefully become an annual event with the Women’s Luncheon last Sunday will be a hard act to follow.

As part of the day where we paid tribute to men and women in the services, the luncheon focussed on women in football and featured AFLW premiership winning coach Bec Goddard as guest speaker.

Bec was an inspirational and outstanding speaker, with one of our guests in the crowd commenting that after listening to Bec about her life growing up and her journey in football she was ready to hand over her first born child to be raised by Bec.

Paul Walshe, resplendent in his pink jacket did his usual masterful job as MC and our own Lisa Bush, former volunteer water carrier, current statistician, football committee member and head of our social committee gave everyone plenty of laughs with her stories of trips with Bec while we were in the NEAFL, and tales of her time on the Women’s Tennis Association tour including playing in grand slam events.

A crowd including high profile guests such as Nicole Lawder MLA (Deputy Leader of the Opposition in the ACT and more importantly our Reserve Grade coach Alex’s mum) and Elizabeth Lee MLA joined members of our women’s team, mums, wives and past associates of the club for a fantastic afternoon.
